Tweets To Appear In Google And Bing, As Twitter Posts Go “Real Time”

With the popularity of Twitter rapidly rising on a daily basis, with many celebrities, famous people and not so well known celebrities now communicating on Twitter, it would seem that they have propelled the status of this technological communication tool to the next level, so much so that Google and Bing will shortly begin to index tweets for users to be able to search for them, in real time.
The news from Google was released on their blog and Bing made their announcement at the Web 2.0 conference in San Fransisco.
With both of these search giants now deciding to not only index but to allow users to search for “Tweets” in real time, does this mean that this form of communication is to become the way forward, or is this just an example of a generation phase in terms of the way people like to know about others business. Either way, this is a massive step forward for Twitter and will no doubt increase their exposure rapidly once these new features go live on both search engines.
If you are in the United States, you can currently see the stand alone Twitter tool in action, by clicking here, but most other visitors will have to wait to see the new feature, unless you change your location on the search engine. Although this is a beta trial, it does give some indication about how the service will look on Microsoft’s newly revamped search engine, but for the Google implementation we will have to wait a few more months until we see how this is going to work for them.
It seems that both deals will simply take a feed or a stream of the Twitter posts, or Tweets, and add them into an index. Whether they will be noticeably separate from search results or a totally different stand alone service we do not yet know, but this is a very exciting move forward for everyone who uses Twitter to keep up to date with everything from the latest news to the events in your local pub.
The way Google is going to implement the Tweets sounds very exciting, with Marissa Mayer, Vice President of Search Products and User Experience blogging:
“the next time you search for something that can be aided by a real-time observation, say, snow conditions at your favorite ski resort, you’ll find tweets from other users who are there and sharing the latest and greatest information.”
We should start to see this service in the next few months for all users of Google and Twitter, and to be honest, we really can not wait to see how Google do indeed use these results, as it could be a very interesting way of finding live information from millions of different sources.
Using Local Searches And SEO Localisation As A Way To Get More Traffic

Many webmasters and web site owners, business and companies tend to always aim far too high when it comes to getting the initial traffic to their site or sites. The majority overlook the importance of starting off by capturing the “easier” traffic and go straight for the millions of searches that are always harder to get in the early days.
Most of our clients have to come to us looking to get more traffic for their website, and I am sure this is the main reason most clients visit an SEO consultancy or SEO development company. Often, looking at their site you will quickly see the problems but sometimes it is more about what they haven’t done in terms of local targeting, which is something that is quite simple to achieve, even if you are a national company.
Let’s take for an example a Web Design Company based in Gloucester. Logically, you would initially target your local area, as not only do you know this area well, you will also be able to better server local clients. Most companies will set all of their SEO and marketing work on or around the word Gloucestershire, which is a large county with many cities and localised regions with in it.
If you took the whole of Gloucestershire, there would be a lot of companies doing what you are doing, which in this example is web design. So, instead of trying to go for the biggest audience you should be targeting the individual areas based within Gloucestershire.
You can then develop your keywords and SEO around the examples below:
Web Design Gloucester
Web Design Cheltenham
Web Design Forest of Dean
Web Design Cirencester
And so the list would go on.
Targeting localised searches is simply the best way to go in the early days of a website or an SEO campaign. You stand a much better chance of ranking for these areas as a cumulative audience than you would just targeting your county or even country.
Even if your firm offers a national service, you can still set your SEO to be regional and then start picking up regionalised traffic rather than just relying on the searcher looking for something on a national basis. For example, you are more likely to find someone searching for “Web Design Gloucester” than you would just “Web Design” if they were a company based in the area looking for this service.
The easy mistake is to try and target a very hard keyword or area with a new or small website. But by breaking your website and SEO campaigns into smaller, more local and regionally based areas, you can not only achieve the same traffic as you would on a bigger basis, but probably more as it will be easier to rank for less well known keywords and your competition will be fewer as well.

Duplicate Content – The Worries, The Myths And Finally The Truth

There seems to be an ever increasing worry circulating around the internet amongst webmasters, clients and businesses, revolving around content and other people using it. The main worry seems to be that if someone else uses your content, you will end up in trouble with Google and be penalised for this.
Well, the news is good and the worry can stop, as you will not be penalised by Google or any other search engine if someone else uses, steals or manipulates your content.
Google and most of the other high ranking engines are very clever, a lot cleverer than most webmasters and website owners give them credit for. Google has thousands of algorithms that can spot everything from dodgy tactics right the way through to how strong your site navigation is. Using all of these algorithms, it then produces your search engine ranking placements, or SERPs as they are known, which is why ranking is never about just one thing, it is about doing hundreds of things correctly.
If you write the content and publish it on your site, you have no worries. The search engine will recognise that the content was published by you and on your site and therefore any attempts to use it elsewhere will simply have no implications to you. The myth that you will get penalised is just incorrect, you will not and can not get penalised for someone else using your content.
In fact, using duplicate content is not something that will see you banned from the Internet for life for doing, it will simply mean it has less effect when it comes to ranking. Website owners and SEO consultants love unique content because it has more effect in the engines, it has more strength and this is the reason we and you would tend to avoid duplicating content, simply because it has no real benefit of doing it.
For example, you have written a new article, published it on your blog and then submitted it to article directories and some other article websites. They publish it and your article is spread around the internet. You, as the content owner and original publisher will gain the most from this article and the other sites will have a much lesser gain from it, but will probably still achieve some rankings, just nowhere near what you will achieve.
This is why many article directories demand unique content, as a simple republish of your own content will help them a little, but nowhere near what a brand new and unique article would benefit them in terms of rankings.
When it comes to content, unique is best, quality is best and unique quality is even better. But, do not worry if people do republish your content, as long as they link back to you and give you the credit for doing so. Even if they don’t, rest assured your own site will not get penalised and you will not lose your rankings to someone stealing your content. Concentrate on writing more decent content and getting it out over the internet, initially via your site and then via other article submission websites, RSS feeds, social bookmarking and all of the other means.
Your time is far better spent on writing good content than worrying about where it might end up.
